There have been a number of popular misconceptions of me, over the years. A lot of people either think I’m a mean guy, some kind of low-class thug, a troublemaker, just plain dumb, or worse...

In actuality I’m just about the opposite of all of that. I’m quite loyal and helpful to my friends, and very polite to others around me (unless otherwise provoked or set-off by ill deeds of others). I consider myself rather eloquent, and reasonably cultivated, as I have been exposed to many different lifestyles. I am well versed in survival skills, first aid, and handling emergency situations so I may assist those in need. At the very least, I’m classically defined as having above-average intelligence, having a very broad education spanning many fields, and scored between 117 and 125 on the Binet-Simon-Terman I.Q. scale during High School and College.

In short, I can say without any ego, that I’m emotionally balanced, helpful, and smart. To describe myself in one word, I’d say “pragmatic.”

If you don’t believe me, you can ask my friends. Those who know me well, can affirm my assessment.

LUCHA!My Friends Are Mostly... intelligent, creative, resourceful, and considerate. I seem to gravitate towards these people who are also mentally and/or physically strong, which breeds confidence and self-sufficiency. I’m supportive of these people who may need the aid of stronger people. I have many friends who study many facets of mysticism, who are into video games, are misunderstood, who cosplay or role-play, are artists, are survivalists, and/or are animal lovers. Most also have a good sense of humor.

I’m heterosexual, though I have very limited drive and don’t actively seek intimacy or a relationship – though I have never dismissed the possibility. I’m quite comfortable with the concepts of intimacy, and am even reasonably versed in many aspects of it. As such, I’m able to relate well to both genders, people of various orientations, without any hang-ups that many people experience.

Although I don’t have a very large circle of friends, and tend to avoid large groups of people, I can be very sociable when I want or need to be. I have extensive experience in public speaking, some voice and screen acting experience on commercials and on-hold tapes, and was trained in character assessment and development.

Though, however polite I can be, I will ruthlessly protect myself, my friends and my personal values from anyone who puts them in jeopardy. I’m a surprisingly well versed in armed and unarmed combat, and have many physical capabilities at my disposal – some considered extraordinary for a person my size.

My Enemies Are Mostly... overly greedy and/or selfish. All my life I’ve clashed with greedy and selfish people. I can accept a natural degree of self-preservation, and support vanity when it is warranted. I loathe people who are incapable of empathy, and fiercely hate those who willfully hurt others for their own selfish gains. I’m particularly vigilant when selfish people take advantage of good people, or those who can’t protect themselves, and overt liars. My all-time mortal enemies are sexual predators, specifically child predators.

If you have any difficulties with me, chances are the problem is yours. I’m never one to recklessly engage in a fight. It takes a lot of provocation to get me earnestly angry with an individual or group – so, if you don’t want to clash with me, don’t be a dumbass.

Hobbies & Indulgences: I enjoy quietly napping, and often have very vivid lucid dreams. I enjoy the rare peaceful moments in my life. I like a wide variety of cuisine, particularly healthier food. I enjoy watching animals, and am excellent at animal spotting and tracking. I adore most pets, especially cats. I enjoy working out, using bodyweight exercises, plyometrics, drills, roadwork, and hill-sprints. Backpacking and bike riding are good workouts, as well as fun. I like to study survivalism. I am well versed in surviving in most North American wilderness, even with limited preparation (I always carry the basics of survival). I enjoy primitive living, gardening, and sustenance hunting when given enough time to prepare. I study practical first aid and rescue techniques. I study and practice various styles of armed and unarmed combat, and some martial arts.

Giant Silva TrophyMartial Arts Skills & Experience: I specialize in being difficult to take down, and have an exceptional defense. I have a good, though sometimes neglected, standup game. I have good fast kicks, and even faster jabs in southpaw or orthodox stance. I have a modest ground game, mostly avoiding takedowns and submissions, but I’m working on improving my submission maneuvers. I seem to have a decent natural rubber-guard, since I'm very flexible. In quick bursts, I have the agility and speed of a Middleweight, or lighter.

I had trained in Shotokan Karate and North American Judo for several years as a kid, until I was 10. In between I took boxing classes here and there (whenever there was a coupon). I really enjoyed Judo, and would have trained further had North Shore Martial Arts not stopped offering it because “Karate was more popular” - something I resented for years. I learned freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, though never applied it. I've leisurely studied military combat techniques (Lerdit, the military version of Muay Thai Kickboxing), folkstyle and trap wrestling, and various other styles that were available on book or VHS. I did a year of intermediate training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with Dino Costeas (Andrei Arlovski's current trainer), during college.

I'm currently training leisurely in Catch Wrestling, and military armed & unarmed combat via instructional videos and books – particularly Krav Maga and MCMAP. Time & budget permitting, I will be taking some American Kickboxing to keep sharp.

Bloggers' Rights at EFFI have absolutely no aspirations to be a professional martial artist or fighter, and I never care about ranking or competition. I'm not “down with the scene.” I simply enjoy being physical, and I have a decent sense for combat sports. It's also a vital part of preparedness - you never know when you'll need to defend yourself or others.

Degrees & Accomplishments: BFA - Media Arts & Animation, Illinois Institute of Art (Chicago). Two-time co-winner of a Caregiver Friendly Award (2004 & 2005). Runner-up for a 2004 New Ability Award. Speaker at 2004 World Congress and Expo on Disabilities. Winner of 2001 T.A.G. “Notepad-Made HTML” Design. Works featured in many major national print publications. 2006 Winner Caregiver Friendly Award - Best Assistive Product Design. NAAFA 2006 "Best New Bariatric Aid" Award winner. Presenter at 2007 Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago Summit on Rehabilitative and Assistive Aids.

Personal Factoids: Very good with animals. Good-to-exceptional public speaker (depending on preparation time). CPR and AED (defibrillator) certified. 20/15 vision in left eye. Tutors children at work, and helps them with homework. With no formal training, helped engineer 9 different medical appliances. Originally wanted to be a video game designer (I still dabble). Right handed, but fights southpaw. Fair marksman. Prefers Windows 2000 Pro operating system. Good at reading people. NEVER gambles. Almost never drinks alcohol or consume caffeine. Uses passwords over 10 characters in length, all with special characters and numbers. Exceptional North American, North European and Japanese wildlife spotter. I like to travel, but avoid tourist spots. I am very open to and supportive of different cultures and lifestyles, providing they don’t pose a threat to others. Except in special situations, I'm always armed with no less than two conventional weapons, and numerous tools I can use as weapons. I always have emergency first aid and survival equipment close at hand.
